Geomagnetic prospection, Tayma, Saudi Arabia

In the context of the investigations for the “archaeology of the oasis city Tayma: Continuity and change of the ways of life in the arid northwest of the Arab peninsula from the Neolithikum to islamizing” are a community project of the Deputy Ministry OF Antiquities and of museum, Riyadh, and the German archaeological institute geomagnetic measurements were accomplished. Additionally a three-dimensional land model of a 26ha of large subsection could be provided in few days.

With geomagnetic methods surface was examined by about 13 hectars. One could be detected more than 10 m broad anomaly along the outside side of the internal city wall . The geo radar measurements supplied additional refrences to the construction of the city wall, the settlement remainders in the central site and further installations in the city.
